Sofie Agnes Zimmer of Blooming Grove died peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh, NY after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 55.
Sofie was born in Eltville-am-Rhine, Germany in 1956 and immigrated to the United States with her daughter Jasmin in 1985. She married her beloved husband Clarence "Spike" Zimmer, and they were happily married for 23 years when he died suddenly in 2008.
Sofie was a part-time bus driver for West Point Tours in Vails Gate, and loved her job. She was a loving wife and mother; deeply devoted to her family and friends. She fought her battle with cancer with hope, great strength, courage, determination and dignity. She was an inspiration and will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Sofie is survived by her beloved daughter Jasmin Lundgren and her son-in-law, Eric, of Cornwall, her mother Maria Kiefer of Eltville Germany, and many, many friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, 2/18 with a memorial service at 7:30pm at Quigley Bros Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street Cornwall On Hudson, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sofie's memory may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY, 12550.
