Ruth Webster Smith, 98, formerly of Waterford, Ct. passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus at the Montgomery Nursing Home, Jan. 31, 2011. Aunt Ruth outlived everyone! She was the widow of Frank William Smith who predeceased her in 1967. She was the daughter of the deceased Walter and Alverda Bitterlick. Her sister, Eleanor Brown Jackson predeceased her in 1986.
She was the beloved aunt to her niece Patricia Karnig and husband Jack; grand nephew, Gary Karnig, of Wallkill, NY and grandniece Michelle Mesiano and husband Tony and children, Alyssa and Christian, of Columbia, SC. Also survived by a nephew, Webster Brown and wife Alice, of Carmel, NY and grandnephews, Michael and Jeffrey Brown, of Carmel, NY.
Prior to her marriage, Ruth worked as a stenographer . Most of her years were spent in Waterford CT, close to the Niantic River. She had a sweet and gentle spirit as well as a wonderful sense of humor.
The entire Karnig family wishes to thank the following people who helped Aunt Ruth during her final five years in this area: The loving, caring and dedicated staff at the New Windsor Country Inn and the Montgomery Nursing home; Dr. Syed Moin for his gentle caring ways; Charlotte Mariani of Waterford, Ct for valuable insights; Clara Walsh who befriended Aunt Ruth; Pastor Ron Truncali and all members of the Hudson Valley Christian Church and their ongoing prayer support.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Later in the spring there will be a memorial service. Memorial contributions may be sent to The Alzheimer’s Foundation or Hudson Valley Christian Church, 100 Grand St. Newburgh NY 12550
