Obituaries: Nancy Vera Hill Mead
January 30, 2011
Nancy Vera Hill Mead of Cornwall, New York passed away on Tuesday, January 18th, 2011 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 84. Daughter of the late Leonard and Lydia Madge Hill she was born on October 28, 1926 in Exeter, Devon, UK. She was married to Donald T. Mead who predeceased her in 2000.
Nancy worked in the offices of Colsons, a department store in the UK. She volunteered at Marden Hall for the Red Cross where recuperating soldiers stayed during WWII. It was there she met her husband Donald. They were married on May 8, 1954 in the UK. Nancy took a position in the bookkeeping department at Cornwall Hospital. She stayed in that position until she was offered the position of becoming secretary to the administrator. Over the years Nancy’s title was changed to administrative assistant to reflect the increased responsibilities she assumed in her position with the hospital. Nancy retired in 1997 after 36 years of dedicated service to the hospital. Once she retired Nancy also volunteered as a member of the Cornwall Hospital Auxiliary for many years.
Nancy is survived by a sister-in-law, Pat Hill of Bristol, UK and a niece Julie Tidey and husband Richard and children of Windsor, UK. She is also survived by her niece Peggie Koroncey and her husband Ken and family of Clarkston, Michigan, a niece Melanie Kranik and her husband John and family of Austin, Texas, a nephew Robert Mead and his wife Esther and family of Walden and a nephew John Mead and his wife Lori and daughter of Montgomery. Nancy is also survived by Marvin Spadafora and family, many great nieces and great nephews whom she loved very much, as well as many friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her brother Leslie Hill and a niece Nancy Spadafora.
Nancy was a kind and giving person who always remembered special days and occasions. She loved her family and friends very much. She was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York. Afuneral service was held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 58 Clinton Street, Cornwall at 10 AM Friday, January 28, 2911. Burial followed in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall.
