Jean C. Smitchger of Cornwall, entered into rest on January 21, 2011, at Wingate in Beacon. She was 78.
The daughter of Edward T. O'Donnell and Genevieve Serranto O'Donnell, she was born October 27, 1932 in Beacon. She was the widow of John J. Smitchger, whom she married on October 10, 1954.
Jean was a retired founder and owner of Smitchger Realty in Cornwall since 1970. She was a past member of Powelton Golf Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Ellen M. Kelly and her husband, Michael of Cornwall-on-Hudson; sister, Marie MacDonald; sister-in-law, Sheila Callahan O'Donnell; grandchildren: Jennie, Mary and Michael Kelly; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, John, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward T. O'Donnell II, and sister, Ellen Jacobs.
A family statement reads: "Special thanks to the nurses, aides and staff at Wingate Beacon for their kind compassionate care."
Jean was known for her beautiful smile and terrific sense of humor. She loved shopping, golfing and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 24, at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, January 25, at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, Cornwall-on-Hudson. Burial followed the Mass in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall.
