Obituaries: Jerome I. (Jerry) Brisman
January 03, 2011
With great sorrow we let friends, family and community know that Jerome Brisman passed away at his winter residence in Delray Beach, FL, on Monday evening, December 27, 2010.
He leaves behind his best friend and wife, Gloria Brisman; daughter, Judith Brisman; three sons: Jeffrey, Robert and Jay and their wives: Pamela, Karen and Elizabeth, along with his nine grandchildren he adoringly referred to as his "lovies." He is also survived by two siblings, brother, Henry Brisman and wife, Ann of Cortland, and sister, Audrey Gold of Suffern.
Jerome, a 1952 graduate of the USMA, at West Point, was President and owner of West Point Tours, Inc. for many years. He missed working with his family of employees there since this past May when he was diagnosed with leukemia. His love of his company lives on in them all and he will always be remembered as Mr. B.
The community and the bus industry were an important part of his life. He was active in both. Jerome was a past president of the New York School Bus Contractors Association and of Temple Beth Jacob. Recently his board position on the Orange County Citizens Foundation brought him much joy in the relationships he fostered there. He contributed greatly to the promotion of tourism in Orange County. He was awarded the Ottaway Medal in April of 2007 in recognition of these accomplishments.
He was a great provider to his family and continually gave of himself to ensure that others were content. He was a true gentleman who always greeted you with a smile. He led by example and was a courageous person. We all will miss him so.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning, the 7th of January at 10 a.m., at the Old Cadet Chapel at West Point, with interment at Post Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Herbert Alumni Center.
On Saturday, the 8th of January, friends and family are welcome to visit at 2 Hidden Glen (off of Angola Road) at the home of Jay and Elizabeth Brisman starting at 2 p.m. A Minyan Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc., 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550 or Temple Beth Jacob, 344 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by William F. Hogan Funeral Home, Highland Falls; 845-446-2868 or www.wfhoganfuneralhome.com.
