Obituaries: Maurie Ann Panzer Harding

January 01, 2011

Maurie Ann Panzer Harding, 76, passed away quietly on Thursday, December 30, 2010, near 7 p.m., at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen, New York, where she was being treated for a pulmonary embolism.

A lifelong New Yorker, Maurie was born in Yonkers on June 23, 1934. She was the daughter of Francis and Margaret Madden Panzer, both deceased. Her father was a brave WWI veteran, a kind and gentle father, who worked on the New York Central Railroad. Her mother was a hardworking and talented lady who raised three children , Maurie, Philip and Fran, through many difficult years.

Maurie was a strong athletic girl who excelled at basketball and volleyball. She graduated from Gorton High School and went to work for Central National Bank, which became the Bank of New York. In May of 1956, she married Patrick Joseph Harding, a young man just out of the Navy, who had begun working for New York Central, as well. Their first child, Mary Elizabeth, was born in 1958, and Maurie happily became a stay-at-home mom. Patrick Kevin, Timothy Gerard, Kathleen Ann and Margaret Mary each were joyously welcomed by the growing Harding family, who moved to a larger house in Nyack, overlooking the Hudson River.

In 1968, Maurie and Pat moved their family to Cornwall, to a house and property she loved with all her heart. Their lives were darkened when their daughter Kathy was called home to God, but their faith only increased. Maurie spent her best years decorating and planting flowers, cooking and cleaning, and raising her kids, attending every sporting event she could. She was a lot of fun and especially loved to dance. She loved a good mystery and she was a whiz at crossword puzzles.

Daughter-in-laws Denise and Robin and son-in-law Rob came to join the family, and eventually, Maurie was blessed with ten grand grandchildren: Sean Eugene & wife Cait, Ryan Patrick, Keri Margaret, Emily Madden, Colin Anderson, Amelia Joyce, Drew Patrick, Sophia Grace, Graham Harding and Gillian Byrnes. She was a loving and beloved Nana.

Visitation will be held at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street in Cornwall–on-Hudson NY , January 2, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church on Monday, January 3, at 10:30.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. 2 Jefferson Plaza Ste. 203 , Poughkeepsie NY 12601-4027.
