Obituaries: Rita M. Mahan

Rita M. Mahan, 98, of Cornwall, a retired secretary with Milprint Co. in Manhattan, NY, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010, at home.

The daughter of James and Irene Cowley, she was born January 13, 1912 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the wife of the late John B. Mahan who passed away on December 22, 1985. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court Rita #264, Cornwall and Golen Age Club of Cornwall.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Micki) Cast and her husband, Michael of Cornwall; grandchildren: Michael, Peter, and Damian Cast, Tricia Sweeney and Nancy Greenhill; 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Baeder and great-granddaughter, Kayla Sweeney.

Family statement reads, Rita was a New York City girl, always a lady, proud of her Catholic and Irish heritage. She leaves behind many friends, some who are here and some who are gone.

Visitation wascheld from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, November 22, at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23, at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St. Cornwall-on-Hudsn, NY 12520. Burial to follow the Mass in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall.
