William Yearwood of Cornwall, NY, entered into rest on June 12, 2010 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Cornwall Campus. He was 94.
The son of Frederick and Eva Yearwood, he was born on October 14, 1915 in Cornwall, NY.
He joined the US Army in 1944 and married his wife Hisae (Sally) in 1951. William was a Veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was at General MacArthur’s headquarters during the invasion of Inchon during the Korean War. During his Army career, he traveled all over the world. He retired from the Army in 1966 and then worked at West Point from 1968 until his retirement in 1980.
William was a member of the Cornwall Fire Dept., American Legion, V.F.W. and Black Rock Fish and Game Club.
Survivors include: his wife Sally at home; son Frederick and his wife Alice of Howells, NY; son-in-law James McDonough of South Carolina; sister Eleanor Devoe of Lee, NH; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter Eva McDonough and by his sister Ruth Loalbo.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 from 6-9pm at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
