Obituaries: James R. Kavanagh

James R. Kavanagh, of Cornwall, NY, passed away on December 5, 2009. He was 70 years old.

Kavanagh was a school teacher with the Newburgh Enlarged School District and a retired police officer with Cornwall-on-Hudson Police Dept.

He was born in the Bronx, New York on September 1, 1939, the son of James J. Kavanagh and Lillian Manning Kavanagh.

His survivors include a daughter, Lisa Nazzaro, and her husband, Donald, of Central Valley, NY; nephews James J. and Peter Kavanagh; close friend Patricia Fogarty, of Newburgh, NY; sister-in-law Emily Kavanagh, of Lindenhurst, NY; and a grandchild, Kristen Marie Nazzaro,

Organizations: Police officer with Cornwall-on-Hudson Police Dept. for 18 yrs, Palisade Park Police, Blooming Grove Police Dept., Village of Washingtonville Police Dept, Town of Marlboro Police Dept.

Schools that Jim taught at: Sacred Heart School - Manhattan, Materchriste School - Queens, NY, Lincoln Hall - Somers, NY, Pleasant Hill Cottage School - Pleasant Valley, NY, and Boces - Southern Westchester County, NY .

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520

The funeral service will be a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY . Burial to follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, NY .
