Ribbon-Cutting at Edgwick Farm

Edgwick Farm, a small family-owned and -operated farm in Cornwall, NY that makes farmstead goat milk cheese, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 348 Angola Road in Cornwall on March 21, 2012, beginning at 11 a.m. to celebrate the opening of their recently constructed microdairy and creamery. New York State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine, representing Governor Cuomo, and other dignitaries will join in the dedication of the farmstead cheese-making facility – the first of its kind in Orange County.

Edgwick Farm collaborated with the town, county, and state officials to develop their site plan, which was approved unanimously by the Cornwall Town Planning Board in December 2010 with a statement of strong support for local agriculture. Groundbreaking for the microdairy and creamery proceeded shortly thereafter, and Edgwick Farm was licensed by the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets to produce farmstead goat’s milk cheese on November 22, 2011.

In early February, Edgwick Farm learned they received a $120K grant for business development through the competitive US Department of Agriculture’s Value-Added Producer Grant program. The USDA VAPG program aims to create jobs and opportunities for agricultural producers, businesses, and families nationwide, and applicants must meet strict requirements to be eligible for funding.

Says Thurau, “This grant, along with the steady and growing demand of our satisfied customers, signals that what Edgwick Farm can provide is not only needed and wanted right now in the community but is also good for Cornwall and Orange County.”

Comments:

I wish I had gotten wind of the ribbon cutting earlier. I would have gladly shown my support, great job and best of luck!
