John J. Smitchger, age 77, of Cornwall, N.Y., died on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hosptal in Cornwall.
Mr. Smitchger was the broker/owner of Smitchger Realty in Cornwall since 1970. He was born on August 1, 1931, in Stegel, Il., the son of Harry and Orla Smitchger
He is survived by his wife, Jean O’Donnell Smitchger, at home, a daughter, Ellen M. Kelly and her husband, Michael, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Sheila Callahan O’Donnell and Marie MacDonald, grandchildren, Jennie , Mary and Michael Kelly, and several nieces and nephews.
Organizations: Veteran of U.S. Army stationed at West Point, past member and president of Storm King Golf Club, past president & member of Cornwall Lion’s Club, a volunteer umpire for Cornwall Little League for many years, broker & owner of Smitchger Realty since 1970, and a past member of the Powelton Golf Club.
Statement: Special thanks to Dr. Bill Lee, Dr. Eugene Schreiner and the nurses at Cornwall Hospital. He loved fishing, golfing, Cutty Sark, the Chicago Bears and cars.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson NY 12520.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday March 25, 2009 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. Burial wil follow in St. Thomas Cemetery- Cornwall, N.Y.
