Obituaries: Obituary: Frank Joseph Speranza

Frank  Joseph Speranza, age 70, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. died on March 3, 2009 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall.

Mr. Speranza was retired from the U.S. Post Office in Riverdale, N.Y.  He was  a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Francis Gorman Assembly, of Newburgh, N.Y., Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Fatima Council, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y., a Scout Master of Boy Scouts Troop 206 for 21 years and a Commissioner of the Hudson Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America. His awards include the Eagle Scout Bd. Of Review of Hudson Valley Council,  the Boy Scouts of America  Pelican Religious Award, the Distinguished Commissioner Award, the Wood Badge ( Bobwhite), and the Silver Beaver Award.  He was a member of the Greater Cornwall Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Speranza was born on August 7, 1939, in New York, New York, the son of Michael Joseph and Maria Gentile Speranza.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Ann Manna Speranza, at home;  his sons:  Frank Mario Speranza and  his wife, Melanie, of  Slate Hill, N.Y., Michael Joseph Speranza, of  Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y., and John Ernest Speranza, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.; his  daughter, Janet Marie Speranza, of Potsdam, N.Y.; grandchildren: Sofia Rose Speranza  and Anna Maria Speranza; a nephew, Henry Kolenvosky and wife, Amiee; a grand-nephew, Maximilian Kolenvosky; niece: Barbara DeMaio and Maryanne Feldman; and many surviving family through out the country.   

He was pre-deceased by his sisters Angelina Kahn and Rose Kolenvosky.
 
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2009 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. 12520       
 
Funeral service will be an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial  on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.   Entombment  will be in Cedar Hill – Newburgh, N.Y.
