Donald V. McGrath, 79, of Cornwall, died on November 9, 2008, at home, surrounded by his family.
McGrath was a retired Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army, serving from1949 to 1970 in Korea and Vietnam. He also worked for the Army Athletic Association at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point.
He was born on October 15, 1929, in Massena, N.Y., the son of Charles McGrath and Nina Merkley McGrath.
He is survived by his son Klaus Roth and his wife, Leonora, of Cornwall, N.Y., a daughter, Dorothea E. Robinson and her husband, of Germany, two sisters, Bea Claffey and Leona McGrath, of Massena, N.Y. and a brother, Harold McGrath, of Massena, N.Y. , a sister, Geraldine Reichman, of Cody, WY, a sister–in-law, Patricia McGrath, grandchildren, Maria Kinkel, Karl Roth , and Kristof Robinson along with four great-grandchildren .
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home at 337 Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Military Honors will be at 6 p.m. that day. Cremation will follow in Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh, N.Y.
