Obituaries: Obituary: Hyman Rosenblum

March 30, 2008

Hyman Rosenblum of Marlboro, N.Y., passed away peacefully on March 27, 2008 at St. Lukes- Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus.
    He was born on September 26, 1918, in Newburgh, N.Y.. The son of the late Miles Raymond Rosenblum and Mary Hoffman Rosenblum.
    He was married to his beloved and loving Evelyn (nee Levy) for mearly 63 years, who survives at home. He is survived by his son  Marshall Rosenblum (Rita) on New Windsor, daughter Mary R. Butkus (John) of Milton, N.Y., and grandchildren Nathan Rosenblum, Alex Butkus, Abigail Butkus, brother Simon Rosenblum (Sally) of Newburgh, and many dear neices, nephews, and great neices and nephews who lived locally and in various parts of the country.
    He was predeceased by sisters Lena Oles (Joseph), Lillian Smith (Lew), Helen Kennedy (Leo), and Violet Lustig.
    He proudly served his country in WWII. He enlisted in the U.S Airforce shortly after Pearl Harbor and was eventually based at General Doolittle's Headquarters in England, part of an 8 member mission planning, reconnaissance team who flew over  E.T.O. territory and returned to base to plan strategic military targets for the Airforce.
    He was a 1937, graduate of New York Military Academy and also studied at New York University school of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance.
    He was a 4th generation member of Newburgh Congregation Agudas Israel and he lived by the principles and family values of his traditional faith. He was active in community affairs of Newburgh for many years, including the Newburgh Optimists Club, Red Cross, Big Brother of Young Men, Jewish War Veterans, etc. There was no end to his love for the country, home, family, and all people and animals.
    He conducted a family wall paper, hardware and paint business which existed for well over 70 years, along with his brother and brothers-in-law, who always guided it with equality and honesty.
    His family will literally "be lost" without his visual presence and the joy and love he gave to all, but he will forever be present in our hearts.
    The family wishes to acknowledge the care and concern "beyond the call of duty" to Cantor Endre Stanler, Dr. Edwand Cowen, Dr. Susan Jenson, and the 5th floor staff at St. Lukes Hospital, the 1 East group at Hudson Valley Extended Care and Rehab Center in Highland, N.Y., and the physical therapists, all of whom tried so hard to make his life as pleasant as possible for him for the past six months. The kindness shown will be remembered by his family.
    A memorial service will be conducted at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home at 337 Hudson St., Cornwall on Hudson, Sunday March 30th, at 10:30 AM for family and friends, and entombment at Cedar Hill Mausoleum attended by family and Cantor. There will be no at-home visitation at this time.
