General News: Woman of History Award to Colette C. Fulton

WOMAN OF HISTORY


(Newburgh, NY … January 24, 2023) Former Cornwall-on-Hudson Village Historian, Colette C. Fulton, has been named the 2023 Martha Washington Woman of History. This award is given annually by Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site to a woman who has made a contribution to the history of the Hudson Valley through education, promotion, or preservation. The honor was inspired by Martha Washington, an outstanding woman in history who resided in the Hudson Valley with her husband, General George Washington, during the last days of the Revolutionary War.

Author of the Arcadia book Images of America Cornwall-on-Hudson and co-author of Images from the Past 1788-1920, Town of Cornwall, Colette Fulton was the Cornwall-on-Hudson village Historian for 37 years. She founded the Cornwall Historical society in 1999 and continues to Archive at the Cornwall Public Library. Director and board member of the Zane Grey West Society, the National Temple Hill Association, the Orange County Historical Society, Reenactor at New Windsor Cantonment and The Last Encampment, Volunteer gardener at Constitution Island she continues to be involved in church and community activities.

The 2023 Martha Washington Woman of History Award will be presented to Colette C. Fulton at an event entitled, “The General’s Lady,” to be held on March 19th at 2pm at Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site in Newburgh.
