Obituaries: Salvatore "Sam" Cassella

Salvatore “Sam” Cassella, of Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY entered into eternal rest on April 6, 2017 at his home. He was 87 years old.
The son of the late John Cassella and Jennie D’Amico Cassella, Sam was born on August 20, 1929 in Chester, NY.
Sam honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and retired after 20 years, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After being discharged, Sam was employed by the New York Military Academy as a Carpenter and Custodian.
As a talented Carpenter and Furniture Maker, Sam enjoyed woodworking and furniture building and was especially fond of building bird houses. He also enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. Sam was a former Member of the Storm King Engine Co. #2, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY and a Member of American Legion Post 1796, New Windsor, NY.
Sam is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor L. (Gauer) Cassella, at home; numerous nieces and nephews, especially Arlene and Robert Lang. Sam was predeceased by his brother, Rosario Cassella; sisters, Agnes LaBate and Mary Cassella.
Per Sam’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service, with Military Honors, will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery on a date to be announced.
