Obituaries: Dorothy Kane

 Dorothy Kane, age 91, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, passed into the arms of the Lord on December 28, 2016 after a short illness.

The daughter of the late Leo A. and Anna Miller Fanning, Dotty was born on November 16, 1925 in Newburgh, NY.

Dorothy was a graduate of St. Thomas Elementary, Cornwall-on-Hudson High School and the Spencerian Business Institute. She worked in the business office of the Cornwall Press, the St. Thomas School office and as a cafeteria worker at one of the local schools.

Mom loved to dance, especially with her grandchildren. She always loved a good laugh, a good book and a good cup of tea while chatting with family and friends. The loves of her life were her family. She was always there when needed, and never turned a deaf ear to anyone in need.

“Mom – we love you and will miss you until we meet again.”

Survivors include: her daughters and their spouses; Mary L. and Donald Conklin of Maine, NY; Kathleen and William Decker of Endwell, NY; Roberta and Dave Wieboldt of Greenville, NY: ten grandchildren: Jacqueline and Mark Szczepanski, Donald C. and Terri Conklin, David R. and Christina Conklin, Michael Conklin, Henry E. and Patty VanHouten, Danielle VanHouten, Theresa Dyseven, Monica Decker, Elizabeth and Matt Mateer, Rachael and Dave Losee: 20 great-grandchildren: and many nieces, nephews , and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Leroy, her brother Rev. Leo M. Fanning, her sister Kathleen R. Fanning, her grandson John D. Conklin, and her great grandson Henry VanHouten.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 6 at 10am at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Interment will be in Calvary –St. Patrick Cemetery, Johnson City, NY.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Dorothy’s memory please be made to a local animal shelter, or to a charity of one’s choice.
