Obituaries: Robert E. Gayton, Sr.

 Robert E. Gayton, Sr., of Mountainville, NY entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2017 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Wallkill, NY. He was 79 years old.

The son of the late Edward L. and Mildred Schreibeis Gayton, Bob was born on October 10, 1937 in Cornwall, NY.

Bob was the President of Mountainville Lawn & Yard, Inc. in Mountainville, NY. Prior to Mountainville Lawn and Yard he was the owner operator of Robert Gayton & Son, Inc., dairy distributor, for over 40 yrs. until his “retirement" in 2002.

Bob honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Intrepid, Norfolk, VA.

Bob was an active member of Mountainville United Methodist Church where he served many years as trustee. He was a lifetime member of the Mountainville Fire Co., a past member of the Cornwall Yacht Club and also a lifetime member of Black Rock Fish and Game Club. Gator was one of the hardest working men on the planet, nothing made him happier than putting in a hard day’s work, he always said, "if I haven't accomplished something it is a wasted day." Hard work, good food, a cold drink and good friends" were what made Gator the happiest, and now he is again surrounded by some of his best friends and laughing with his beloved daughter, Jodi. Just keep dancing Gator, We love you!

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Jodi Lynn LaSala and his sister, Stephanie Sherman. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sandra J. Gayton; his son, Robert E. Gayton, Jr.; the mother of his children, Barbara Williams; his son-in-law Thomas LaSala and wife Nikki; his stepson Stephen Sutherland and wife Jennifer; his stepdaughter Kelly McKiernan and husband Bernard; his grandchildren, Taylor and Sidney LaSala, Bryan Gayton, Stephen and Madison McKiernan and Kaitlyn and Tyler Sutherland; his brothers, David, Stephen, Richard and Edward Gayton; his sisters, Constance White, Gwendolyn Reichenberger, Audrey Armandarez, Melanie Hartman and Teresa Gayton. And best 4 legged friends Misty and Bob Cat.

Visitation will be held from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 8th at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at (time) on Monday, January 9th at 11 a.m. at the Highland Mills United Methodist Church, 654 Route 32, Highland Mills, NY; Rev. Darlene E.R. Resling will officiate. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, NY.
