Obituaries: Joseph L. Ward

 Joseph L. Ward of Cornwall NY entered into rest on Monday, September 5, 2016. He was 88.

The son of the late Oscar and Florence Dillon Ward, he was born on April 22, 1928 in Newburgh, NY.

Joseph was a graduate of Cornwall High School and a parishioner of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church. He was a retired Building Inspector for the Town of Cornwall, as well as being retired from West Point Tours.

His many positions include: part time dispatcher for Town of Cornwall Emergency Services; Life member of Highland Engine Co. #1; past Chief and past Commissioner of Cornwall Fire Dept.; Life member of Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corps.. Joe was also a past Orange Co. Fire Investigator, an honorary life member and past treasurer of NYS Building Officials Conference, an honorary member of both Mountainville Engine Co. #3 and Storm King Engine Co. #2 as well as a past employee of James F. Lulves Funeral Home.

Survivors include: daughters Joanne Fornusek (Edward) and Mary Ellen Albarino; son Joseph L. Ward, Jr. (Anne); grandchildren: Edward Fornusek (Donnielle), Amy Fornusek, Tracy Sypher (Nicholas), Patricia Yustein (Craig), John Albarino, Jr. (Emma) and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife , Sheila B. Ward, granddaughter Karen Fornusek, and brother John J. Ward.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8 from 3-7pm at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 9 at 10am at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Joe’s memory please be made to Highland Engine Co. #1, PO Box 22, Cornwall, NY 12518 or to Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corps., 1 Clinton St., Cornwall, NY 12518
