James Walsh, of Cornwall, NY passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on May 31, 2016 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, NY. He was 89 years old.
The son of the late Martin Walsh and Gertrude McCroden Walsh, James was born on July 9, 1926 in Trenton, NJ. James was also predeceased by his siblings, Martin Walsh, Kathryn Sirak and Donald Walsh.
James served in the US Navy, Army Air Corps, and retired as a Master Sergeant of the US Air Force. He proudly and honorably serviced his country for 20 years. After his retirement from the military, James served in the Department of Inspector General at West Point. As a World War ll and Korean Veteran, James had the privilege of taking the Hudson Valley Honor Flight to Washington D.C in October 2015.
To know him was to love him. Affectionately known as Grandpa Walsh to many, James enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's many events including Little League baseball, soccer, and basketball games. He was known for bringing Dove chocolates and Dunkin Donuts to those outings. He also enjoyed his grandchildren's concerts, plays, gymnastic competitions, and school functions.
James was also an amazing father to his four children. A lifetime of memories will forever be his legacy. He always had a twinkle in his blue eyes and a joke or song to share. He truly was a one of a kind, generous, and wonderful person who will be missed by many. James will continue to live on in the hearts of all who cherished and adored him. His sense of adventure and humor were contagious. His life was a blessing to all.
James is survived by his loving wife, Jessie I. Walsh at home; his sons, Sean C. Walsh and his wife Susan and their children, Colin, Emma and Aaron of Charlotte, NC, Timothy J. Walsh and his wife Sally and their children, Chelsea, Brooke and Tyler of Cornwall, NY; his daughters, Stacy D. Segali and her husband Eddie and their children, Ryan, Matthew and Kevin of Newburgh, NY, Elizabeth A. Walsh of Monroe, NY; he is also survived by a large extended family which includes cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 614 Station Road, Rock Tavern, NY; Pastor John Vance will officiate. Burial with full Military Honors will follow the Service at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Trenton, NJ.
