Marie G. Woods of Cornwall, NY entered into rest on Saturday, January 30 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 85.
The daughter of the late Leonard and Shirley Kimmes Gorton, she was born on October 17, 1930 in Liberty, NY.
Marie graduated from Cortland and was a retired teacher and guidance counselor. She worked for many years in the Newburgh School District. Marie belonged to Habitat for Humanity and the Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corp. She was also a member of the Cornwall United Methodist Church. She spent countless hours in her garden, which so many people enjoyed seeing as they passed by. Marie was a loving sister, aunt and friend, and she will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her sisters: Gladys Shearer, Georgina Lark (William), and Myrtle Bernarbo (Paul); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Robert Shearer and her nephew Stephen Shearer.
The family would like to thank Jenna for all her care and support during the past four and a half years.
Friends may call from 2-4pm on Wednesday, February 3 at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. A Memorial Service will follow visitation at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, Marie has requested that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity, 125 Washington St., Newburgh, NY 12550 or to Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corps., PO Box 151, Cornwall, NY 12518.
