Robert (Bob) Edward Kuklis, entered into eternal peace on Saturday, May 23rd at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh. He was 95 years young.
Bob was a proud member of the “Greatest Generation”. Born in 1919 in NYC, he became a typesetter and printer. He worked at Norden Bombsight, and in 1942, at the age of 22, enlisted in the United States Marine Corp as an Infantryman in the Second Marine Division. He participated in the major battles of Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa as well as the clean up of Nagasaki, Japan during WWII.
When he returned from the war in 1946, he married the love of his life, Theresa Nesnady and they recently celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary on May 19th. Bob and Theresa lived in Tarrytown NY and moved to Cornwall-on-Hudson in 1960.
As a typesetter and printer, among the places he worked were The Cornwall Press, The Evening News, and the United States Military Academy at West Point as a micro-photographer.
He was an active member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, former member of the Sokols, former competitive gymnast and coach, a volunteer fireman in Tarrytown, NY and member of the Spur Riding Club in NYC.
He was a musician, jokester, and honorable man who had a strong work ethic, a loving devotion to his wife and family, and was a proud Marine veteran. He was an avid clockmaker, a photographer, and an exceptional jack-of-all-trades who would help anyone in need.
Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Theresa Nesnady Kuklis, his three daughters Johanna Sweikata and spouse Jim of Montgomery NY, Barbara Conroy and spouse Kevin of Montgomery NY, and Mary Taylor and spouse Scott of Peachtree Corners, GA; his grandchildren, Jimmy Sweikata, Paul Satkowski, Adam Sweikata, JoAnn Sweikata, Ian Taylor and Ben Taylor; eight great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law. Bob is predeceased by his parents, six brothers, and one sister.
Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Wednesday, May 27th, at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson NY, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 6:15pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, May 28th, St. Thomas of Cantebury; with Father Andy Kurzyna officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, NY.
