GERALDINE YANNITTY
August 28th, 1926 - March 17th, 2015New Windsor, NY
Gerrie Yannitty, lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley, entered into eternal rest on March 17th at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. She was 88 years old.
The daughter of Arthur and Florence Edwards, Gerrie was born on August 28th in her parent's home on 1st Street in Newburgh, NY. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Arthur B. Edwards, Dorothy Luby and Winifred Edwards. Gerrie enjoyed her retirement and during her career, she worked as an office assistant for the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
She was a great lover of dogs all throughout her life, especially her "Little Mickey". Gerrie loved the arts, music was a great passion of hers. As a young girl, she played the oboe in the school band, a fact that she was extremely proud of. She enjoyed dancing and singing and had an extensive collection of music from all ages. Gerrie loved to "explore" new places through books and movies. She was a lifelong learner and she loved to share her gift of knowledge with those around her. She was an extremely eloquent and persuasive writer and she dabbled in writing poetry of her own. Gerrie loved the water and she spent many summers in the pool and enjoyed visiting the shore. Above all, she loved her family deeply. She never forgot a birthday, holiday, or major event in any of their lives and she took great pride in all of their accomplishments. She will be missed greatly.
Gerrie is survived by her son, Mario "Arnold" Yannitty and two daughters: Florrie Yannitty and Lesley deLemos (Russell); as well as her eight grandchildren: Nicole Maggio (Steven), Jason Soukup (Tarren), Katherine Daly (Thomas), Elizabeth deLemos, Michael deLemos, Jeffery Yannitty (Christine), Tara Yannitty, Megan Pastore and her six great grandchildren: Steven, Jenna and Rachel Maggio; Aiden Soukup; Madison Daly; Ethan Pastore.
Gerrie's family will be holding a celebration of life memorial at Pamela's on Hudson from 12 to 3 p.m. on April 18th. Gerrie will be laid to rest, alongside her brother in Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor, NY.
