Obituaries: Peter Gibbons

 Peter Gibbons, long-time resident of Cornwall, NY peacefully passed away on January 5th in Rhinebeck, NY; he was 85 years old.

The son of Joseph Butler Gibbons and Anna Loretta Neary, John was born on March 31, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. After high school, John earned his degree in aviation engineering and received his pilot's licence from the Academy of Aeronautics at Laguardia Field in New York. John went on to become an environmental engineer designing and implementing large scale systems to reduce environmental pollution for large factories and landfills. He was a senior engineer for the Wehren Engineering Company for decades. John proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. As a Sergeant, John served as a Counter Intelligence Agent for the Army and was honorably discharged on March 6, 1953.

John was predeceased by his wife (and dance partner) of 47 years, Charlotte "Lottie" Meers Gibbons. He was also predeceased by his two beloved older brothers: Joseph and Donald.John is survived by his daughter, Liz and her husband, George Krause of Narrowsburg, NY; his daughter, Cathy and her husband, Sean Burke of Red Hook, NY and his son, John and his partner, Michael Fragale of Washington, D.C. John is also survived by his grandchildren: Jessie Krause Sabbagh and her husband, Joe Sabbagh, Samie Krause, Sean Christopher Burke, and Charlotte Burke. John was expecting his first great-grandchild with Jessie and Joe Sabbagh this March.

John will be remembered, per his wishes, in a small private viewing for his immediate family at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson NY and laid to rest alongside his wife, Lottie in the St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall, NY.

To honor John's love of animals and their adoption, his family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Hudson Valley SPCA, 940 Little Britain Rd, New Windsor, N.Y. 12553.
