Photography Workshop at The Grail

February 05, 2011 —February 26, 2011

Four workshops for all level photographers by Mary Ann G. Neuman at The Grail, 119 Duncan Avenue, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY.

Session 1: LEARNING TO USE YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA

Sunday, February 5, 2012
2:00 – 4:30 PM

Everything you will ever need to
know about your digital camera.
Your photos will improve instantly
with a fuller understanding of
how your camera works and how
best to use it. Participants should
bring their camera and its
manual.

Session 2: DEVELOPING YOUR CREATIVE EYE
Sunday, February 12, 2012
2:00 – 4:30 PM

Workshop will cover basic photography techniques and offer new ways of seeing and expressing yourself on film and/or digital image. Topics include: composition, exposure, lighting, color, and how to generally improve your photos. We will explore all types of photography: indoor and outdoor, landscape, portraits, animals, etc. Bring your camera and your manual if you have one.

Session 3: MOVING BEYOND AUTOMATIC
Sunday, February 19, 2012
2:00 – 4:30 PM

Learn how to make the camera do what you want it to do. In this workshop you will learn how to select f-stops and shutter speeds to create the photo you want: blurred backgrounds, athletes frozen
in time and space, smooth water falls, etc. No matter what your specific
photographic interest is--indoor, outdoor, landscape, portraits, animals,
etc.--you will learn how to apply these techniques in your work.

A portion of the workshop will be devoted to evaluating our own photos
in a safe, relaxed, fun and non-judgmental environment.

Session 4: IN THE FIELD
Sunday, February 26, 2012
(Snow date: March 4, 2012)
2:00 – 4:30 PM

This workshop will take us outside on the beautiful Grail grounds where we will apply all we have learned in our previous workshops--how to choose our subjects, how tosimplify our photos, how to focus on our subject and present it in the best light, etc.  After shooting, we will bring our work inside, look at it on the computer and evaluate our photos in a safe, relaxed, fun and non-judgmental environment.

Facilitator: Mary Ann G. Neuman focuses her personal work on travel photography and on people in their natural environments. She has created a body of work entitled Somebody’s Sister which offers glaring testimony to the plight of women the world over and which was recently displayed at The Grail. She has shown her work individually and in group shows and has been published in numerous books and newspapers. She also offers workshops on digital photography, developing your creative eye and photographic basics.
