On Saturday, January 11 at 10 a.m., the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum presents Woodpeckers! This special program will confirm that woodpeckers are indeed handsome birds with unique adaptations. Come join environmental educator Pam Golben at the Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center, on Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Road, Cornwall to learn how to identify different woodpecker species through photos and actual sound recordings. “Many species of woodpeckers have red on their heads, but only one is named the red-headed Woodpecker,” says Pam. “Among their many amazing adaptations, woodpeckers have bristle-like feathers covering their nostrils to help prevent them from inhaling wood particles.” Find out which types of feeders will attract woodpeckers to your yard, and learn helpful hints about what to do if woodpeckers become a neighborhood nuisance. After the program make a batch of woodpecker food to take home! For adults with or without children and children ages 5 and up. Admission: $7/Adults - $5/Children. Museum Members: $5/Adults - $3/Children. For information visit the museum’s website at hhhnaturemuseum.org or call 845-534-5506, ext. 204.
