February 22, 2012

Cultural Affairs at SUNY Orange is offering a lecture on Wednesday, February 22 entitled Plant Evolution–from Darwin’s Star Orchid to Poison Ivy.

The program begins at 7:15pm in the Gilman Center for International Education in the Library located at the corner of South Street and East Conkling Ave, Middletown, NY. Susan K. Pell, PhD, will share her knowledge on the evolution of plants during her presentation, which includes PowerPoint slides. The lecture is free and open to the public, and registration is not required.

Dr. Pell holds a BS in Biology from St. Andrews Presbyterian College and a PhD in Plant Biology from Louisiana State University. She is Director of Science at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and Botany Program Coordinator in Adult Education and School of Professional Horticulture faculty member at the New York Botanical Garden. In addition, she is on the adjunct faculty at Pratt Institute and the College of Mount Saint Vincent. She travels worldwide to collect specimens for her research.

Two other lectures on other evolution topics will take place, one in March and one in April.
