Staten Island Ferry Sinks into the Hudson

Bob Anderson was one of many people driving along Water Street in Newburgh this weekend who noticed that the former Staten Island Ferry boat was listing to its side, sinking into the Hudson River after springing a leak. Anderson, a tugboat captain from Cornwall-on-Hudson, took this photo on Monday of the 300-foot, two-story ferry, named after former New York governor and U.S. Senator Herbert H. Lehman.
The ferry was docked at Steelways, a steel fabrication company, when it began to take on water.
After the boat was decommissioned in 2007, it was purchased by a private owner, Jacques Guillet, who told The New York Times that “a boat is like a woman…You can’t live without them, but they give you sometimes a hard time.” He sold the ferry to an unidentified buyer in 2011.
