George Kane took these photo of the H.M.S. Bounty replica ship at the dock in Newburgh on a rainy day earlier this week. He sends in a couple of shots of the ship, along with some information about its history.
"One of the last full-rigged ships still sailing, the H.M.S. Bounty echoes back to an age when majestic tall ships manned by hardy souls explored the world's oceans. The Bounty is dedicated to teaching through sailing and preserving the maritime skills used on the great square riggers.
The replica of original Bounty was built in 1960 for the MGM movie version of Mutiny on the Bounty, which starred Marlon Brando. It was vverhauled in 2006-2007 and returned to active service. Since the summer 2007 the H.M.S. Bounty has been a regular at tall ship events in England, Europe, up and down both coasts of the USA, and the Galapagos Islands."
