Obituaries: Gertrude C. Benedict

GERTRUDE C. BENEDICT
December 8, 1920 – April 14, 2022
Englewood, FL formerly of Cornwall, NY

Gertrude C. Benedict, a former resident of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest on April 14, 2022 in Englewood, FL. She was 101 years old.

The daughter of the late William John Chase and Helen (Webber) Chase, Gertrude was born on December 8, 1920 in Pearl River, NY.

Gertrude was Valedictorian of her class, graduating from Cornwall High School in1939. She studied for 1 ½ years at New Paltz State College, majoring in Education.

Gertrude was part owner with her husband of Mountain View Farm, a catering facility and summer resort. In the 1940’s, Gertrude was painted several times by the painter John Gould, for Red Cross posters during World War 2. She was an active member of the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and did years of community service.

A family statement reads: “She lived a wonderful life and traveled with family around the world. She was very kind and giving. She will be missed greatly by all, and a void is definitely in our hearts!”

Gertrude was predeceased by her loving husband, Howard Franklin Benedict, in 1993. She is survived by her daughter, Eileen (Benedict) Christian; her sons: H. Glenn Benedict, Lee Benedict and Dale Benedict;12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 23rd at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 1520 Route 94, New Windsor, NY. A Service will take place at 11:30 a.m. following the Visitation. Interment will follow at the Bethlehem Cemetery.
