Obituaries: Benjamin Harris

March 20, 1921 – January 23, 2022
Cornwall, NY

Benjamin Harris, of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest on January 23, 2022 at his home. He was 100 years old.

Ben was one of six children born to Henry Harris and Frieda (Meyers) Harris of Harlem, NYC. He was the first in his family to be born in a hospital, Harlem Hospital.

Ben attended Berkshire High School in Harlem. He worked for Gazelle Textiles starting as a Janitor, working his way up through the textile shop until he became head of the textile company.

Ben married Bella Katzelnik in 1941. He served in the US Navy during World War II. After the war, he and his brother, Sidney, went into the taxicab business in the Bronx, NYC. Eventually, he sold his half of the medallion and moved to Newburgh, NY where he began his career as a Real Estate Salesman, and through hard work, established Benjamin Harris Real Estate.

Ben was an all- around athlete; he loved all sports and card playing. He celebrated his 100th birthday on March 20, 2021, with his family on Zoom.

Ben is survived by his daughters: Judith Morse, Barbara Reisinger, Leslie Holtz and his son-in-law, Dr. Jerome Holtz; brother: Edward Harris; his 9 grandchildren: Sherri Cordelli-Johnson, Geoffrey Morse, John Reisinger, Robert Reisinger, Daniel Reisinger, Gregory Reisinger, Rebecca Reisinger, Joshua Holtz, Gabriele Holtz; 15 great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Ben was predeceased by his wife: Bella and infant son, Gregory.

The family would like to thank Dr. Harvey and Ellie Siegal; and Ben’s devoted staff: Sully Curbelo, Cathy Dinger, Cynthia Flores, Diana Giron, Christina Perez and Maria Figueroa.

Interment will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, January 28th. at Mount Hebron Cemetery, 130-04 Horace Harding Expressway, Flushing, NY. Due to the continued public health concerns of covid-19, please know that facial coverings must be worn and social distancing must be practiced at all times.

Memorial Donations in Ben’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
