CONRAD R. REMICK
May 17, 1936 – October 1, 2021

Conrad R. Remick, of Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY entered into eternal rest on October 1, 2021 surrounded by family.
Conrad was born on May 17, 1936 in Scranton, PA. He is predeceased by his loving parents, Victoria and Ralph Orr and brother, Thomas Remick.
Conrad Remick graduated from the Syracuse University School of Architecture in 1958, and led the award winning architectural firm Remick Architects and Planners for most of his 45-year career. A member of the American Institute of Architects, he also served on numerous state and national architectural panels, including the AIA National Committee on Design and the National Council Registration Boards. Soon after graduating Syracuse University, Conrad designed the Rutgers Medical School in New Brunswick NJ, a design that was later awarded the state’s AIA Gold Medal Award. His career continued with extensive work for colleges and universities, such as Colgate University, Hartwick College, Clarkson University, Pace University and Saint Thomas Aquinas College, work for which he received several citations from the AIA for Excellence in Design as well as the attention of publications like American School and University and The New York Times.
His practice also included an impressive portfolio of library and museum projects, including multiple projects for the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. An exhibition of his work entitled “Concept and Context- the Architecture of Conrad R. Remick” was shown at the Colgate University Art Gallery in 1989. When he finally retired, he was honored by Syracuse University with the Dean’s Outstanding Alumni Award.
But his favorite commission came when he won the competition to design a major addition to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Library in Cooperstown, NY. It was a project that he designed and completed with his son, Glenn, who was working for him at the time. It embodied his passions for baseball, architecture, tradition, and family.
His work was always personal, and his innate ability to connect with people led to lifelong relationships with clients well beyond their work together. Though his projects were located throughout New York and beyond, he took great pride in offering his expertise to his own local community.
The beauty of his work will truly inspire others for generations.
Over 50 years ago, Conrad and Norma moved to Cornwall-On-Hudson with their family. In his younger years, Conrad served the larger community through active duty in the National Guard during the Berlin Crisis. In the local community, Conrad was a long-time member of the Cornwall United Methodist Church and served as President of the Rotary Club as well as on various other town committees. On any given day, one could find Conrad and Norma on their daily walk through the village or down by the riverfront, appreciating the beautiful community in which they resided.
Conrad was married to his beloved wife Norma for 61 beautiful years. As a devoted husband, dedicated father and beloved grandfather and uncle, Conrad’s love for family is his living legacy. His proudest moments were spent bragging about the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren to all who met him. Conrad and his wife Norma loved nothing more than attending graduations, school concerts and theatre productions, soccer and baseball games, swim meets and family celebrations, the most recent being a Family Reunion in May in honor of Conrad’s 85th Birthday.
Blessed with opportunities to travel and enjoy their passions for art, photography, music, sports and world cultures, Conrad and his wife Norma dedicated themselves to sharing in these experiences with their children and grandchildren. Endless memories from family vacations at Cape Cod will also continue to be cherished by his children and grandchildren. These passions and commitment to strong family values will be carried on through generations to come. Conrad will be missed greatly.
Conrad is survived by his devoted wife Norma, his three children Kim Rotner (husband Philip), Glenn Remick (wife Jean Marie), Jill Cook (husband Matthew); his grandchildren Benjamin and Samuel Rotner, and Jennifer and April Cook; and his brother Norman Remick (wife Diane).
A small Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 9th, at the Cornwall United Methodist Church, 198 Main Street, Cornwall, NY. Due to COVID restrictions, there is limited attendance capacity and masks and social distancing expectations are in place.
