General News: Notes from the June Town Board Meeting

June 06, 2019

Cornwall Town Board Work Session Meeting 06/03/2019
By Hannah Comitz

Storm King Run
The board received a letter for a request to hold the 8th annual Storm King run that will be held on August 25th. The run will start in Highland Falls.

Firthcliffe Sewer District Extension
The Scott family requested sewer services outside of the district. The request was properly submitted and now the board has to vote, which will be included at the public hearing. All of the proper steps and information has been collected so the process should move forward smoothly.

Purchase Highway Equipment
The board approved the purchase of the highway equipment. The purchase price for the new bobcat is approximately $28,750. The highway superintendent would like the board to consider a miniature John Deer excavator instead of the backhoe. This could possibly save the town thousands of dollars. Further information will continue to be collected to properly select equipment and stay well within the budget.

Pool Chair Lift
An ADA compliant chair lift is planning to be installed at the pool. Prices for the instillation are being considered. The instillation of the chair was a recommendation from the town’s insurance company. By next week the chair should be installed. This will allow people with limited mobility the opportunity to use the pool. The wading pool is now open and the main pool will open on June 29th.

Zoning Review
The board is in the process of setting a meeting date for the zoning update. They are considering the 19th, but the exact date will be set next meeting.

Staff
The summer camp counselors and directors list was approved. Seasonal summer full time employees were selected to maintain the area. One of the workers selected was Matt Kraft, who will hold the position while home from college. The employees will work 40 hours a week at $16 per hour. These employees will give the department help during the busy warm season.
