RiverFest 2019
By Hannah Comitz
06/02/2019

River Fest was held at the Donahue Memorial Park on Sunday. The festival had a fantastic turnout despite the strong possibility of rain. Busses picked people up along the route and brought them to and from the river front. This allowed people the ability to park and enjoy the festival while keeping the river front safe from unnecessary traffic.

An interesting booth near the dock was the Storm King Adventure Tours. They were offering $1 kayak demos to the public. Numerous people took the opportunity to try out their kayaking skills in the river.

An entertainment tent was set up at the far end of the festival where local bands played for the public. Thankfully the tent was also used as a shelter from the light rain.

A special event at the festival was the unveiling of the new historical marker. Mayor Coyne gave a short speech about the process of getting the grant and the history of the area. He hoped that the marker will recognize the heritage and history of the area. He also added that he hopes future generations will be able to appreciate and enjoy the marker. The town received a $1100 grant from the Pomeroy foundation that allowed them to get this marker. Months of research using newspapers and documents from that time period were used to apply for this grant. The research showed the importance of the unique attributes of the area. The yellow and blue sign can now be seen and enjoyed by the public.

River Fest was a success and the rain did not stop the Cornwall community from enjoying the festival. The festival grows each year and it is a fantastic tradition for Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson.
