The Cornwall Central School District nominated Brielle Withers to receive the Student of Achievement award.
June 13, 2019

Washingtonville, NY -- (06/11/2019) Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (R,C,I,Ref-New Windsor) held his inaugural 99th Assembly District Students of Achievement event at the Washingtonville Middle School Auditorium. This official State Assembly government event was created to recognize students from across the Assembly District who have made significant contributions to their school communities and the 99th Assembly District.

The Cornwall Central School District nominated Brielle Withers to receive the Student of Achievement award. As far back as Pre-Kindergarten, teachers from Butterhill Day School remarked on Brielle’s kindness towards others. During her years at Willow Avenue Elementary School, Brielle’s teachers often described her as having a genuinely special spirit. Her 4th grade teacher Ms. Gilson, once referred to her as being like “Mother Theresa”, a description that Brielle still treasures today. Her empathic spirit led her to acting where she excels at stepping into the shoes of other characters, making them come alive, sing and dance. At just 13 years old, Brielle has performed in 18 musicals- in her school and in various community productions with Riverside Theater Arts Academy and the Tarrytown Music Hall.

In addition to her theatrical success, Brielle has also made several contributions to her community, especially as an advocate for students who have been bullied. Brielle has served as a student ambassador for the National Initiative called “Project Be A Friend” and this past fall, she met with the Cornwall Cares Committee to discuss ways to aid students in the school district. Brielle’s efforts and the support of her Cornwall school district have already produced over 1,450 letters of support for young victims of bullying to let them know they are friend strong. Brielle has continued to find innovative ways to organize her friends to bring support to kids who need it.

Assemblyman Colin Schmitt stated, “I am so proud of all of the Students of Achievement honorees. Brielle Withers from Cornwall Central School District is well-deserving of this recognition. Brielle uses her free time to find innovative ways to help other students struggling and serves as a positive role model to all of her peers. I appreciate all of her hard work and efforts to combat bullying in schools.”

Brielle Withers stated, “I would like thank Cornwall School District for nominating me for this award. I never expected to get an award like this. The Be-A-Friend Project is an amazing anti bullying project and I would like to thank them for letting me be their On Air Teen Ambassador. I am very grateful for receiving this award from Assemblyman Colin Schmitt.”
