I know in the past individuals had the asked the little league to let the honkers know of sleep schedules and conflicts and they would avoid honking near those homes/businesses, although I have not noticed it being done this year, maybe no one discussed it, but please, if we would talk to each other insteadof throwing things/yelling obscenities the world would be a much better place.  I like the honking, but I too am concerned for the kids safety-which is how this whole thing started.  Since the police are now escorting, maybe there could be some sort of a signal used to stop honking near certain houses ie a purple flag or something.  Let's enjoy the small town life we have while we still can and celebrate the kids accomplishments.

When I originally sent this letter to the editor, my goal was to simply bring the safety aspect of riding against a tailgate to light.  If it brought awareness to ONE of those driving or following close behind - I accomplished my goal.

We've lived on Hudson Street for more than 20 years, We see and hear the honking caravans cruise down and back - Yes its a great tradition and lots of fun to celebrate the win.  Not once was my intent to shut it down, ruin the experience for parents and kids or take away elements of our 'old town' environment.  We love this place!

My message was simple, "Let's keep our kids safe".

It has been so interesting to read these posts and the "Local" this week.  An "Outsider" might think this town is full of a bunch of snobs.  I might even agree with them.  All the sniveling about  noise is deafening.

In my opinion, the attractivness of this town has always been how child friendly it is.  It still is....unless they start making noise.   I appreciate the tradition of "honking".  It is like having a parade every few days.  Please also keepin mind that it seems overwhelming to some because of the unbelievable success our  All-Star teams have had this year.  Good for them!

I say suck it up and cheer them on.  Life is short, go with the flow and smile.

What would happen if every sports team in Cornwall started a tradition of honking after a win?  What if we honk after every successful drama production? What if we honk we the chess team wins a tournament? What if I want to honk when my kids get good report cards? I don't mind the honking, but then I don't live on the honking route (although I can hear it from my house a mile up the hill). Isn't there some way to celebrate that doesn't involve disturbing other people?

The possibility that kids who particpate in sports may grow up to be well-balanced and productive doesn't make their right to celebrate any more important than someone else's right not to be disturbed by loud noises.

You both have very valid points, but there is one thing you both missed.

Some people have very young children. Such children often sleep when these
"honkers" come by. If the honking is too loud or frequent, the child may wake up. Tired, cranky babies are a pain mind you, and become difficult on occasion to be put back to bed. This can in turn become stressful to some people.

In regards however, to pedestrians giving the bird and other acts of the sort, it is not acceptable by any means. It is those people who ruin what is a community.

I'm all for the people who honk, they just should be a tad bit more careful about  how hard they hit the horn.
