Yalin Chi, Concert Pianist, is featured in the first concert in the “Revelations” Chamber Music Concert Series on Saturday evening, January 30, 2010 at 7:30pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Clinton and Hazen Streets in Cornwall , NY
Yalin Chi is a graduate of Juilliard and currently pianist with the West Point Military Academy Band. There is a suggested donation of $10 and a light reception will follow.
Ms. Chi’s program offers a broad spectrum of early 20th century works to include Rachmaninov’s Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor; two Preludes by Alexander Scriabin; the Sonatine my Maurice Ravel and Alban Berg’s Sonata, No. 1. Closing out her program, Ms. Chi will present Ferrucio Busoni’s arrangement of the Chorale-Prelude, "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland,” BWV 659 by J.S. Bach.
In 1997, just prior to her immigration to the United States , Yalin Chi gave her debut in her home town of Beijing with the Central Opera Symphony Orchestra. Since that time, Ms. Chi has performed solo and chamber concerts throughout the U.S. and Asia in venues including Alice Tully Hall and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York , Gardner Museum in Boston , Kumho Art Hall in Seoul , Korea and ZhongShan Music Center in Beijing .
Ms. Chi began her formal music education at the age of twelve, attending the Central Conservatory Preschool in Beijing . She studied with Seymour Lipkin during her undergraduate years at Juilliard, completing her Masters degree in 2005 under Jerome Lowenthal. She has coached chamber music with Jonathan Feldman, Margo Garrett, Charles Neidich and Ronald Copes. Ms. Chi has also performed in the master classes of Arie Vardi, Richard Goode, Boris Berman and John O'Conor.
With an orchestral piano fellowship, Ms.Chi attended the Aspen Music Festival in 2006. Further Festival studies and performances have taken her to the Taos School of Music, Music Academy of the West, Kneisel Hall and Bowdoin Festivals. Ms. Chi held the Piano Minor Teaching Fellowship from Juilliard from 2004 to 2006 as well as the Community Service Fellowship from 2001 to 2004, performing Outreach Recitals in Senior Citizen homes, Hospitals and Community Centers in New York City .
In January of 2008, Yalin Chi joined the West Point Military Academy Band. As the Concert Band pianist, Ms. Chi performs with the band, as a chamber musician, and in recitals around the east coast.
