Lecture at the Library: Cornelius Vanderbilt

Feingold to present LECTURE on CORNELIUS VANDERBILT

CORNWALL – The Cornwall Public Library will host a lecture, “Cornelius Vanderbilt – The First Tycoon,” from 6 p.m.-7:45 p.m. Jan. 15. Rick Feingold, Professor of American History at Bergen Community College, will present the lecture.

Cornelius Vanderbilt began his empire at age 16, when he launched his own ferry in New York Harbor, transporting passengers from Staten Island to the tip of Manhattan. He grew his venture into a massive steamship company by undercutting his competitors and driving them out of business. Vanderbilt eventually built a railroad empire from New York to Chicago, and built the first Grand Central Terminal at 42nd Street in New York City.

The lecture is free, and registration is not required.
