HHNM Presents: Letterboxing
Learn Letterboxing at Cornwall Museum
On Sunday, June 2, at 10a.m., the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum presents: Letterboxing! Join environmental educator Carl Heitmuller at the Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center, entrance on Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Road, Cornwall, to find out about the newest adventure that is fast becoming a popular family activity! “Letterboxing is an intriguing pastime of "treasure-hunts" in parks, forests, and cities around the world,” said Carl. “Participants seek out hidden letterboxes by cracking codes and following clues.” The prize is a miniature piece of art known as a rubber stamp—usually a unique, hand-carved creation. Letterboxers stamp their discoveries in a personal journal, and then use their own rubber stamp, called a signature stamp, by stamping it into the logbook found with the letterbox, perhaps writing a note about the weather or their adventures in finding the letterbox.
Participants will learn the basics of letterboxing plus make a simple letterbox stamp and actually find a box at the Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center. For adults with or without children and children ages 5 and up. Admission: $7/Adults, $5/Children. Museum members: $5/Adults and $3/Children.
