Roller Derby Charity Event
Man’s Ruin Roller Derby (www.mansruinrollerderby.com) & The Hudson Valley Horrors (www.horrorsrollerderby.com) have teamed up for an event to benefit Orange County, NYs Brittany Miller Foundation (www.BrittanyMiller.org). On Saturday Night December 1, 2012 at 7pm in Chester, NY both teams will be hosting a Double Header Roller Derby event at the Castle Family Fun Center with all event proceeds going to The Brittany Miller Foundation. “Modern Roller Derby is about the empowerment of our skaters both by becoming more physically able but also by enabling them to contribute to the community. Events like this are an excellent way to entertain people while raising money for an excellent and local cause.” said Brandon Hoffman, a Cornwall resident and Mans Ruin Roller Derby’s Announcer.
The Foundation is inspired by the memory of Brittany Miller, a Middletown, New York girl who on July 31, 1996 -- her seventh birthday -- died after fighting a spirited battle against brain cancer, As part of her treatment Brittany had to undergo the hour-plus trip to Westchester several times a month for treatments. No local hospitals provided the sophisticated treatments she required. After Brittany was diagnosed with cancer in July 1995 her parents discovered that, in addition to the emotional drain on families in their situation, even families with good medical coverage find that the lodging, food and other miscellaneous expenses can prove quite a hardship.
This event will be appropriate for all ages. Advance Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 and can be purchased at www.mansruinrollerderby.com. Tickets are also available at the door for $15. The Castle Family Fun Center is located at 109 Brookside Avenue in Chester, NY.
