Run for the OC Heritage Trail

The Orange County Citizens Foundation will hold the third Annual Run for the Trail, a 5K Run/Walk, on the Orange County Heritage Trail in Goshen on Saturday, October 13th. The race is an out and back course predominantly on the Heritage Trail. It begins at St. James Episcopal Church on St. James Place in Goshen with a turnaround at Duck Farm Road. The first place overall winner will receive a $100 cash prize and an Adidas gift bag filled with supplies.

Proceeds of the run/walk will benefit the Citizens Foundation to help promote and expand the Heritage Trail as well as other walking and biking paths throughout Orange County. Volunteers work with community members, local government, the County Planning Department, and others to complete trail projects to promote good health and increase recreational and nonmotorized transportation throughout the county.

The first mile of the Heritage Trail was first opened in 1994. Today, the Heritage Trail is a 12+ mile recreational trail. Plans are underway to expand the Trail through Middletown. The Heritage Trail is open to the public for running, biking, skating, and walking.

Registration prior to October 13th is $20; on race day, registration is $25. Visit www.occitizensfoundation.org or www.active.com to register. For more information, call the Citizens Foundation at 845-469-9459.

The Citizens Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create the environment that improves quality of life for Orange County residents through land use and transportation planning, cultural affairs, water conservation, and waste management. Volunteers are welcome and encouraged to join the Citizens Foundation’s working committees. For more information, visit www.occitizensfoundation.org or call 845-469-9459.
