Orange County Senior Games
Orange County Senior Games set to kick off on Sept. 16
Popular event offers seniors a variety of diverse activities to participate in across the County
Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus announced on Tuesday that the Orange County Senior Games will celebrate its 32nd year with a variety of competitions, contests, museum tours and social activities for men and women ages 55 and older.
Presented by the Orange County Department of Parks and Office for the Aging, the Senior Games is one of the longest running programs of its kind in the nation.
“This event has become a tradition in Orange County and we are looking forward to hosting it again,” Neuhaus said. “Seniors are living longer and healthier lives. The Senior Games provide a great opportunity to highlight them and keep them active. We will continue to reach out to our County’s older adults with resources to help them stay fit.”
Lunch, breakfast and/or refreshments are included with most events. For the competitive events, Olympic-style medallions (gold-silver-bronze) will be awarded to men and women winners in the following age categories: 55-59, 60-64, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84 and 85 and over. Each participant will receive a colorful Senior Games t-shirt and there are door prizes and special giveaways available at all events.
“Staying active and keeping fit plays a critical role in maintaining good health and well-being as we grow older,” said AnnMarie Maglione, Orange County’s Director of the Office for the Aging. “The Senior Games are a great way to exercise your body, keep your mind active and alert, and have fun at the same time. The events are sprinkled throughout our scenic county, allowing participants the opportunity to take in the beautiful place we call home.”
Thanks to the support of local businesses and organizations, especially the main sponsor of the Senior Games, ShopRite, the registration fee remains only $10. A few events include an additional fee.
