Historical Society Candlelight House Tour
The Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands, located in the heart of the beautiful Mid-Hudson Valley, will hold its annual Candlelight Tour of Homes on Sunday, December 11, 2011 from noon to 5pm.
The tour begins at the Captain David Crawford House, 189 Montgomery St., Newburgh, NY. This opulent 1830’s home, located in New York State’s largest upstate Historic District, will be decorated inside and out as it would have been in 1840, using fresh greens, flowers and fruit.
This year, tour takers will be treated to a special performance by members of Jubilate, a Warwick-based, co-ed choir of talented youth in grades four through twelve. The choir has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and many other local and regional venues. Members of the choir will be performing at the Crawford House and Kaplan Hall at SUNY Orange during the Tour.
Tour participants will receive an illustrated booklet that includes a map of all the sites on the Tour. These include 9 private homes and 4 rarely open public spaces which exemplify Newburgh’s rich architectural heritage. Participants tour the properties at their own pace.
Tickets are available for a $25 donation if purchased in advance and $30 if purchased at the Crawford House on the day of the event. For information, or to order your tickets, please call 845-561-2585 or email [email protected]. You may also visit our website at www.newburghhistoricalsociety.com.
