Nature Lecture
The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum in partnership the Cornwall Presbyterian Church presents their Fall Evening Speakers Series: Nature: From Howling Wilderness to Vacation Destination. This lecture will take place on Tuesday, November 8, 7:30 p.m. at the Cornwall Presbyterian Fellowship Hall, 222 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson. Join Dr. Charles Mitchell, associate professor of American Studies at Elmira College, as he traces the social, cultural and economic forces that led to the perception of wild nature as something of value to be experienced and preserved. This illustrated presentation draws on landscape painting, photography and traveler’s accounts. Key topics and figures along the way include Henry David Thoreau, Thomas Cole and the Hudson River School, John Muir, Ansel Adams and the Lorax.
