Woman of History Program
On Saturday, March 31st Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site’s will celebrate Woman’s History Month. This annual program, “The General’s Lady” highlights Martha Washington by honoring a contemporary Woman of History. This year’s recipient is Stella Bailey. The event, taking place at 1:00 PM in the Ritz Theater Lobby, 107 Broadway, is free and open to the public.
Ms. Bailey, a co-founder of the Fort Montgomery Battle Site Association, is also its Executive Director and Financial Officer. For many years, she’s been involved with Hudson Valley historic preservation, serving as President of the Town of Highlands Historical Society for 32 years, and as the town/village historian for 19 years.
Ms. Bailey joins an exclusive and prestigious group of women whose members include Janet Dempsey, local historian and author, Carol Ash, from the Alliance for New York State Parks, Patricia Favata, author and historian, Barbara Bedell, columnist and preservation advocate, Mary McTamaney, City of Newburgh Historian, Mary Mangione, former Director of the Hudson River Valley Greenway, Elizabeth McKean, City of Newburgh Records Management Director, Mary Ann Fish, environmental historian and, Mara Farrell, a community activist.
The program will also include a reception and a guest speaker presentation. Jennifer Krieger, an art historian, will talk about “The Women Artists of the Hudson River School.” Mrs. Krieger is a recognized academic scholar of American Art.
