Neuhaus presents Ken Cashman with July’s Citizen of the Month Award

Cashman recognized for his work at The Cornwall Local and involvement in the community

Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus has named Ken Cashman as July’s Citizen of the Month Award recipient.

Cashman, a Monroe resident, was recognized for his work at the Cornwall Local for the last 21 years, and for his involvement in the Orange County community over the last four decades. Cashman retired as a writer/editor at the Cornwall Local last week.

“I’ve always enjoyed working with Ken,” Neuhaus said. “I admire how deeply he cares about the people his stories covered, and the Cornwall Local, for which he wrote. His concern for the community showed in all his work over the years, and everyone in Cornwall and beyond knows and respects Ken.”

Cashman moved from Bergen County, N.J. to Monroe in 1983. For the next 20 years, he was active in several community activities, including leadership roles with Little League baseball and Pop Warner football. He was also chairman of the Bicentennial Committee and Sunday School Superintendent.

Cashman joined the Cornwall Local in March 2001, after careers at Prentice-Hall Publishing and Met Life Insurance. He was promoted to editor in 2008 and covered a variety of events with one of his favorites being athletics in the Cornwall school district. Cashman has three children, Bill, Elise and Keven and eight grandchildren.

Neuhaus introduced his Citizen of the Month Award, which acknowledges outstanding Orange County residents, in January of 2017. To nominate someone for the Citizen of the Month Award, please email [email protected] or mail a letter to “Citizen of the Month” at 255-275 Main Street Goshen, N.Y. 10924.
