Shakespeare in the Park
The Palisades Interstate Park Commission presents Shakespeare in the Park free at Tallman Mountain State Park on June 3rd at 6 pm and June 4th at 4 om
For the first time in it’s history, Tallman Mountain State Park will be hosting free performances of two plays: The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) and The Merry Wives of Windsor. These performances will be open to the public and will offer an opportunity to enjoy some lighthearted comedy under the sky in the beautiful setting of one of Rockland County’s natural treasures.
The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged: Friday, June 3, beginning at 6:00 PM) by Jess Borgeson, Adam Long and Daniel Singer is a contemporary mishmash of all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays into a single performance. It is fast-paced, unrestrained comedy that pokes fun at the stories, while secretly allowing the audience to come away knowing a little more about Shakespeare in the end. This madcap hilarity had audiences laughing till they cried at two sold-out performances in April. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch this show again! This production is presented by The Strange Bedfellows, the adult company of The Children’s Shakespeare Theatre.
The Merry Wives of Windsor (Saturday, June 4 beginning at 4:00 PM) is one of Shakespeare’s most delightful comedies, here re-imagined in a modern setting. Journey back to a time when life was simpler... a time of poodle skirts and swell parties and rocking around the clock. This updated and light-hearted production of the Merry Wives of Windsor is a delightful mash-up of I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, The Little Rascals and Happy Days all rolled into one! Mr. Falstaff is an outsider and he comes to the small town of Windsor thinking to fool the locals in to giving him whatever he wants. But he finds more than he bargained for in a couple of sharp-witted ladies and some crazy examples of the American melting-pot. Don't miss this happy romp through the 1950s set to a soundtrack that will have you itching to get up and twist the night away. This production features The Rogue Players, the teen company of The Children’s Shakespeare Theatre.
This event was coordinated between Diana Green, Artistic Director of The Children’s Shakespeare Theatre, and Clark Alexandre, Tallman Park Manager. In the spirit of free Shakespeare in other parks, such as Central Park in NYC, it is hoped that these performances will bring families and neighbors into the park for a new kind of event. Tallman Park has long been appreciated for it’s beautiful walking paths, expansive views of the river and even for summertime fun in the pool, but never before has it hosted live theater.
ADMISSION IS FREE! The performances will take place in the stone amphitheater at the western end of the athletic field, just to the left of the entrance to the park. The amphitheater is handicapped accessible. All you have to do is bring a lawn chair or a blanket and perhaps a picnic. For performance information or directions, please call: 845-365-9709.
