Structure and Light: An Architect's View



On Thursday, June 23, join a special evening to learn about the mid-19th century architectural style pioneered by A.J. Downing in the city of Newburgh. Architect Jeffrey Small will discuss Downing's work and the Hudson Valley's Carpenter Gothic Style Architecture in a lecture at 7 pm at the Karpeles Manuscript Library at 94 Broadway. The presentation is offered by the Newburgh Preservation Association.

Before the lecture, the Palatine Shop at 5 Grand Street will host an opening reception at 6 pm. If you haven't seen the incredible collection of Newburgh artifacts at the Palatine Shop, this will be a great opportunity.

More about Jeffrey Small:

Jeffrey Small is an architect based in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY who focuses on traditional design with experience in residential, commercial, municipal and institutional projects. He is passionate about preserving the historic fabric of our built environment, while creating high performance buildings of artistry and efficiency.

He is certified by the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEED Accredited Professional and has a strong interest in sustainable design. He is Chairman of the Cornwall-on-Hudson Planning Board and is a member of the Village Master Plan Committee.

With 28 years of experience, Jeffrey is a graduate of the Syracuse University School of Architecture and is licensed in New York State. He is an active member of the American Institute of Architects, the Institute of Classical Architecture and the U.S. Green Building Council's Hudson Valley Branch.
