Landscape Design for the Home Gardener
The Friends of the Orange County Arboretum announce a two-part Landscape Design class for the home gardener. The two session program will be held on February 18 and February 25 from 10:00 a.m. to noon in the Kosuga Greenhouse classroom at the Orange County Arboretum located in Thomas Bull Memorial Park, Route 416, Montgomery.
The program will be lead by Peter Patel, Orange County Parks Department Horticulturist and Arborist, who will help gardeners plan for warm weather planting. Landscape design topics will include plant, tree and shrub selection, hardiness zones, soil and drainage, dealing with deer, hardscaping with stone and pavers, and general garden maintenance. Each class will end with an ask-the-expert “Q&A” session. Attendees are encouraged to bring photos of the areas they are landscaping for Peter’s guidance and suggestions.
“Anyone who has enjoyed the scenic beauty of the Arboretum surely has an appreciation of Peter’s skill and creativity,” said Mr. Diana. “Orange County residents are so fortunate that he will be sharing his expertise with other gardening enthusiasts.”
The cost for the two-part class is only $30 per person and will benefit the Friends of the Orange County Arboretum. Advanced registration is required. To reserve a seat, please call Peter Patel at (845) 551-9756. In case of inclement weather, snow dates are scheduled for February 23 and 28.
