Hike the Appalachian Trail
The Orange County Citizens Foundation will sponsor a hike of the Appalachian Trail from Mount Peter in Warwick followed by a picnic at Bellvale Creamery on Saturday, August 14th.
Participants will meet at the trailhead located at 400 Route 17A in Warwick at 8:30 AM to register. The hike, rated as easy, will begin promptly at 9AM. Citizens Foundation Trustee Bob Krahulik will lead the hike. After the approximately three-hour round trip trek, hikers will enjoy a picnic lunch at Bellvale Creamery, located right near the trailhead.
The entire day is free to Orange County Citizens members. Adult nonmembers are $15 and children ages 2-12 are $10, with a cap of $40 per family. Any individual or family that joins on the day of the event will be free of charge.
Other hikes the Citizens Foundation has hosted include Sugar Loaf Mountain, Cascade Lake and the Appalachian Trail in Warwick and Storm King Mountain in Cornwall. The organization hosts hikes throughout the County to encourage the public to enjoy its natural resources and to learn more about the County and its environment. The membership-based non-profit is planning other hikes throughout the year. The hike will be postponed until August 28 in case of inclement weather.
For more information, call the Citizens Foundation at 845-469-9459, or register online at www.citizensfoundation.org.
The membership-driven organization’s mission is to create the environment that betters the lives of Orange County residents through better land use and transportation planning, waste management, water conservation, and preservation of our environmental and cultural heritage.
